What Cardi B should address on Am I The Drama?

Five subjects Cardi should be speaking on when her new album finally drops.
It has been seven long years since Cardi B dropped her debut album Invasion Of Privacy but this week the Bardi Gang are finally getting its follow-up. Titled Am I The Drama?, little is known about the album besides the fact it will include guest spots from Selena Gomez, Janet Jackson, and Cash Cobain, among others. The fact that the album will include Megan Thee Stallion collaboration “WAP” (first released in 2020) as one of its 23 tracks only goes to show just how long this thing has been in the pipeline.
That’s not to say Cardi has been living a quiet life and waiting for inspiration to strike. If anything, there is so much drama that surrounds her fans should have plenty to chew over when the album lands on Friday. With that in mind, here are the things we want to see Cardi tackle on with Am I The Drama?.
Her split from husband Offset
Let’s not pretend otherwise; the biggest drama that has surrounded Cardi the most these last few years is her on-off relationship with Offset. Cardi filed for divorce from the Migos rapper in July 2024, bringing an end to their six year marriage. “It’s not based on cheating rumors, but rather has been a long time coming,” a spokesperson said at the time.
Am I The Drama? song “Outside” doesn’t do much to dispel those cheating rumours, though, with lines about other women and sliding into NBA player’s DMs as revenge. “Can’t wait to see your mama, tell her how she raised a bitch,” she raps on that track. Expect to hear plenty more where that came from.
Her issues with service in Atlanta restaurants
It’s not just the men of Atlanta Cardi has an issue with. She is happy to call out their restaurants, too. See her 2023 comments piggybacking off the TikTok restaurant critic Keith Lee and his complaints about a number of establishments in the city. “I feel like Atlanta restaurants, they don’t like to make money,” Cardi said in an Instagram live at the time, later stating that customer service is poor and she has to mention her name to get people’s attention. “I’m famous, but even me being famous, it’s like a hassle!” she said. More of this, please. Let’s hear Cardi’s take on chalkboard menus, tipping etiquette, and restaurants that have their own merch.
Her viral moment on the stand
This summer Cardi reminded the world of her superstar charisma in the most unlikely place: a civil assault trial. She stood accused of attacking a Beverly Hills security guard in 2018 in an incident alleged to have begun when she caught the security guard secretly filming her. The details of the case faded into the background, however, when Cardi was cross examined by the prosecution’s legal team. Whether she was talking about her wigs or dismissing suggestions she is a gang member, Cardi took the grilling in her stride and was hilarious with it, too (before eventually being cleared of all charges). The line “No, I called her a bitch” is begging to be sampled somewhere.
Her Las Vegas microphone throw
Cardi’s summer 2023 performance at a beach club in Las Vegas went sideways after a drink was spilled on the stage. She reacted instinctively and threw the microphone she was holding in the direction of the spillage. Police investigated and, understandably, took no further action, though Cardi now faces a civil suit over the toss. The microphone at the center of the incident later was auctioned to the highest bidder. If Cardi can’t get at least a bar out of that whole drama, the album might be a bust.
Her political allegances
Cardi’s music has never been particularly political but she has used her platform to advocate for progressive voices including, notably, Bernie Sanders in a 2020 presidential campaign video. It’s unlikely Am I The Drama? will provide the solution to the Democrats losing the youth vote but a Zohran namedrop would go triple platinum in New York.
