The mogul’s defense team notified the court that it will challenge both the guilty verdict and the prison term he received.

Lawyers for Sean “Diddy” Combs have formally filed paperwork to challenge both his conviction and four-year prison sentence for transportation to engage in prostitution, the New York Times reports.

Earlier this month Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison following his conviction on federal prostitution-related charges. He was acquitted of three more serious three racketeering and sex crimes charges, marking the conclusion of a RICO investigation that began nearly two years ago.

On Monday, Combs’s legal team filed a two-page notice of appeal, challenging both the conviction and the four-year prison sentence.

The form, known as a “notice of appeal,” lists Alexandra A.E. Shapiro as Combs’ appellate attorney and was submitted in Manhattan federal court. More in-depth filings detailing why the sentence should be overturned are predicted to be submitted to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals soon. A three judge panel sitting in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit will then make a decision in due course.

Before his October 3 sentencing, Combs’s legal team had argued that he should be sentenced to no more than 14 months. Factoring in the 12 months he had already served in detention since his arrest would have allowed him to leave prison by the end of the calendar year.

Combs also told the judge “if you give me another chance, I won’t let you down.” But the judge dismissed that argument, saying that his offenses had “irreparably harmed two women.”

The disgraced rapper and mogul is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The Bureau of Prisons will make a final decision on where he will serve the remainder of his prison term.
