Everything to know about Lorde’s new album Virgin

The New Zealander’s fourth album is coming this summer.

Last week, New Zealand pop songwriter Lorde shared her highly anticipated new single “What Was That,” a chrome-slick and shrewd interrogation of nostalgia through concurrently retro-minded pop trends. After being thrust back into the spotlight by Charli XCX’s “girl, so confusing,” a song off the massive brat that put their strained friendship at its center, Lorde could have easily ridden that album’s wave and tried running back Brat Summer. Judging from “What Was That,” she’s trapped in her head much in the same way Charli was, but the surrounding party is all her own.

Today, Lorde has officially announced her fourth solo album Virgin, out June 27 via Republic Records. A few more details about the project have emerged, too: here’s everything we know so far.

Who produced the album?

Virgin is produced by Lorde and Jim-E-Stack. Stack has been a consistent voice in pop’s underground and mainstream for over a decade, producing music for Haim, Empress Of, Dominic Fike, The Kid Laroi, Kacy Hill, and many more. He’s released two solo albums, Tell Me I Belong and EPHEMERA. He co-produced Charli XCX’s “girl, so confusing” remix featuring Lorde, and shares writing and production credits on much of Bon Iver’s new album Sable, Fable.

Who will be featured on Virgin?

According to Lorde’s website, Virgin has a list of collaborators that should excite anyone looking forward to potentially more dance-oriented music.

Fabiana Palladino, the spacey R&B artist signed to Jai Paul’s label Paul Institute, is the first name on the list, followed by Mk.gee’s touring guitarist Andrew Aged. Buddy Ross, producer on Frank Ocean’s classic albums Endless and Blonde, is also named, as is the pop songwriting juggernaur Dan Nigro, winner of the 2025 Grammy Award for Producer of the Year (Non-Classical).

Finally, we can expect to hear Devonté Hynes on Virgin – whether he’ll be in his Blood Orange mode or his more recent avant-classical one remains to be seen.

How many songs will be on Virgin?

Apple Music has an 11-song tracklisting for Virgin, including “What Was That.”

When is the release date of Lorde’s new album?
