The profile described the follow-up to 2022’s Gemini Rights as an “all-encompassing pop album that artists like Prince […] used to make.” There are “classic rock ballads,” moments of “trip-hop and electronica,” and a newfound focus on synthesizers on the album, which Lacy self-produced.
“Nice Shoes,” feels like it is pulled from that latter category, with a gentle drum n’ bass production sitting underneath Lacy’s lyrics about the perils of keeping an attractive circle of buddies. “If I had a dollar for the friends I would fuck,” he sings, “I could buy a pair of really nice shoes.”
In addition to his solo material, Lacy also offered up a rare update on The Internet, the group he plays in alongside Syd and Matt Martians, which has been dormant since releasing their 2018 album Hive Mind. He says they’ve been “hanging out” and to “expect new music soon.”
