The “Old Town Road” rapper faces three felony assault charges stemming from a August 21 incident.

An attorney for Lil Nas X told a court in Van Nuys, California that his client is currently out of state in treatment following his August 21 arrest, CBS reports. The rapper and singer born Montero Lamar Hill was hit with four felony charges on August 21 — three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. He has pleaded not guilty.

Drew Findling, Nas X’s attorney, gave reporters additional detail on Monday (September 14). “We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint – but most importantly for his wellbeing.” Nas X was recorded on August 21 walking the Studio City neighborhood wearing underwear and a pair of cowboy boots. He was reportedly taken to a hospital following his arrest for a suspected overdose.

Five days later, Nas X issued his first public statement. “Your girl is going to be okay y’all,” he said in an Instagram Story. “Shit, that was f-cking terrifying…That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is going to be alright.”

Nas X’s next court date is scheduled for November 18, 2025.
