This Thanksgiving week, we were graced with a solid scope of music headlines, ranging from Uzi going indie to Kenny Beats becoming Kenneth Blume.

The release lineup spanned solid longform projects from Ferg, SWAVAY, MAVI, Zukovstheworld, and Pink Siifu, along with the beginning of Biggavelli’s proper return to the rap scene…

Ferg’s FLIP PHONE SHORTY – STRICTLY FOR DA STREETZ VOL. 1 Features His Own Art

One of my favorite days ever is the day I got to visit Ferg’s art gallery pop-up in New York City back in April. Held in an intimate gallery space in Soho, Ferg gave us a tour, explaining each painting in grave detail – oftentimes referencing lyrics directly – and emphasizing the fact that painting is just as much a part of his artistry as music is.

MAVI Proves Himself on The Pilot

Something about The Pilot feels like it’s MAVI proving he’s here to stay. At just ten tracks, the artist says what he needs to say – nothing more, nothing less – with a crop of what just might be the perfect curation of featured artists: Kenny Mason, MIKE, Earl Sweatshirt, and Smino.

New release: SWAVAY – No Deluxe

Hosted by DJ Holiday, the Atlanta rapper’s new tape hears him shine over textured trap, alongside Ovrkast., Anycia, milkzy, and Chase Shakur.

Uzi Goes Indie, Drops Two New Tracks

Lil Uzi Vert knows how to make a re-entrance. The rapper stepped back into the scene with their first new music since Eternal Atake 2 – which came paired with the big news that they signed to Roc Nation Records, thus allowing them to maintain their status as an indie artist. New singles “Chanel Boy” and “Relevant” continue to rack up streams as the artist teases more tracks to come.

Max B’s SP5DER Campaign and Sonic Return

The Wave meets The Web. Max B leads SP5DER’s annual Black Friday campaign this year, debuting a new angel-numbered sweat set. He also dropped his first new music since his release from prison, “No More Tricks,” which precedes his first post-prison album, the latest in his Public Domain Series: Public Domain 7: The First Purge (Patient Zero).

New Release: Pink Siifu – ONYX’!

So underrated.

Smino Launches Bjorn (At Last)

We’ve been sitting on this news for a minute; as the rapper revealed to us in a June 2024 interview, he’s officially lifted the veil on his very own fashion line named after the fictional middle name his fans gave him: Bjorn. “So my real name is Christopher Smith, but my fans changed my name on Wikipedia to Christopher Bjorn Smith, and it was a whole thing between them,” he told us last summer. “I had no idea what was happening, and people kept commenting on my sh*t like ‘Christopher Bjorn, where is the album?’ and I was like, ‘Where are y’all getting this Bjorn sh*t from?’ So I posted like ‘This ain’t my real name,’ and people thought I was kidding. So I made the whole brand out of it.”

Kenny Beats Is Now Kenneth Blume

TLDR: Don’t overthink the name change; it means nothing about his relationship with hip hop. My full thoughts here.

Frank Ocean Is Team Marty Supreme

The latest in the traveling saga of Timothee Chalamet’s Marty Supreme jacket might be the garment’s most grand moment yet in its star-studded rotation. Following up on the NAHMIAS x A24 silhouette’s feature in ‘fit pick from Kid Cudi, Karl Anthony Towns, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Timothee took to his Instagram story to share a picture of none other than Frank Ocean in the jacket. The jacket could’ve closed out its tour there on a perfect high note. Still, it continued the momentum once again, with Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber each donning a new colorway of the jacket on Instagram a few days later: Justin rocked it in pink, and Hailey in green and yellow.

Leon Thomas, 40s, & Shorties

Apparel drops and collabs have become a regular component of project rollouts these days. Leon Thomas is the latest to get on the trend, teaming up with 40s & Shorties on a collaborative drop in support of his new EP, Pholks. The drop doesn’t feel like merch and is actually exciting.

New release: Zukovstheworld

As another ascending force from the UK underground scene, he continues to climb the ranks with the future-facing new LP.
