Cyndi Lauper, Bad Company, and Soundgarden will also join this year, but there’s no room for Mariah Carey.
Outkast and The White Stripes are among the artists set to be into the the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2025. They are joined by Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker. The names were revealed by Ryan Seacrest during Sunday’s episode of American Idol.
Artists become eligible for inclusion 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording with a panel of around 1200 people deciding who makes the cut.
Naturally, as much discussion goes on who doesn’t make the grade each year as who does. Those missing out this year include the Manchester bands Oasis and New Order/Joy Division. Mariah Carey has also been snubbed for the second year in a row. Asked about missing out on 2024, Carey said: “My thoughts are, I didn’t get in.”
Other honors to be handed out at this year’s induction ceremony include Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon, who will both receive this year’s Musical Influence Award. Additionally, the Musical Excellence Award will go to the Philly Soul producer Thom Bell; British musician Nicky Hopkins, known for his work with the Rolling Stones and the Who among others, and Carole Kaye, who counts work on the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” and Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” among her credits.
DreamWorks Records co-founder Lenny Waronker, who signed Madonna, REM and Prince, will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on November 8 at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater. The event will be broadcast live on Disney+ and available to stream via Hulu.
