Read Cassie’s victim impact statement ahead of Diddy sentencing

Prosecutors have argued that Sean Combs deserves 11 years in prison.

Casandra “Cassie” Ventura has urged the judge in the Sean “Diddy” Combs trial to consider “the truths at hand that the jury failed to see” when he makes his sentencing decision later this week.

Diddy was found guilty of two charges related to transporting male sex workers across state lines, and not guilty on three others, more serious charges, in New York earlier this year. His sentencing will be decided on Friday, October 3. Last week Diddy’s defense team asked for prison time to be kept to a minimum, stressing the time their client has already spent behind bars as well as his issues with drugs and alcohol. Over 75 letters of support, including one from City Girls rapper Yung Miami, were presented as proof of Diddy’s character.

On Monday, September 29, it was the turn of the prosecution who recommended that Diddy be sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison for his crimes. Rolling Stone reports that a 164-page memo from the prosecution spelled out the need for Diddy’s punishment to “take into account the manner in which he committed them [crimes]” while reminding the judge that the rapper and business mogul “engaged in violence and put others in fear.”

A selection of victim impact statements were also provided, including one from Cassie, who testified against her former partner at the start of the trial in May. She alleged that she was the victim of violence and manipulation during their decade-long relationship in which “freak-offs,” drug-fueled sex parties, were commonplace.

“While the jury did not seem to understand or believe that I engaged in freak-offs because of the force and coercion the defendant used against me, I know that is the truth, and his sentence should reflect the reality of the evidence and my lived experience as a victim,” Cassie wrote in Monday’s letter.

Another victim impact letter, from an anonymous former employee of Combs who testified under the name Mia, stated that Combs “trapped” her in “a world of terror, abuse, humiliation, and coercive control.” She added that the “years of abuse have rewired my brain. Even today, I feel trapped in the mental and emotional patterns that he created. I live with chronic and severe PTSD, depression, and crippling anxiety.”

Diddy has spent more than a year in custody following his September 2024 arrest. Judge Arun Subramanian rejected a $50 million bail deal from Combs’ lawyers after the conclusion of the trial in July.
