Kevin Federline, the former husband of Britney Spears, is due to publish his memoir later this month and, in an excerpt obtained by the New York Times, he made clear his belief that his ex is a danger to herself and others. On Wednesday night, Spears responded and accused Federline of “constant gaslighting” that has become “extremely hurtful and exhausting.”
Federline’s book, You Thought You Knew, alleges that Spears used cocaine while breastfeeding and that she would watch their children Sean Preston, now 20, and Jayden James, now 19, sleeping while she held a knife. He added that “something bad is going to happen if things don’t change” with Spears, who exited a high-profile conservatorship in 2021.
In response, Spears denied the claims laid out by Federline and revealed how little time she has spent with her children in recent years,
“I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life. Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me,” Spears wrote. “They need to take responsibility for themselves. With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.”
Spears went on to accuse Federline of telling mistruths for money. “Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.” She went on to add that she “will always love” her sons, and those that truly know her, “won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking.”
“I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years,” she wrote in the ending of her post. “I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
Federline and Spears were married in 2004, and Spears filed for divorce two years later in 2006. You Thought You Knew is due to be published in full on October 21.
